The HPV vaccination helps protect against cancers (including cervical cancer) and genital warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is a very common sexually transmitted infection – it’s extremely rare to have HPV without any sexual relationships.

It’s best to get vaccinated before you have sex for the first time, as it means that you are protected before any exposure to HPV. However, you will still benefit from the vaccine if you have already had sex.

Almost everyone can have the HPV vaccine, including breastfeeding women. However, it is not suitable for pregnant women.

Frequently asked questions about HPV vaccination

The HPV vaccine is typically recommended for people who have not yet had sex for the first time, as it’s most effective when given before any exposure to HPV.

If you’re sexually active, the vaccine may still be beneficial to you depending on your circumstances and risk factors. Speak to us and we can help determine whether the HPV vaccine is right for you.

You should not have the HPV vaccine if:

– You’ve had severe allergic reactions to the HPV vaccine before
– You’re pregnant

Using a barrier method of contraception – such as a male or female condom – is the best way to protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Contact us and we’ll help you find the right method of contraception for you.

If you’ve already had unprotected sex, you can further protect yourself by going for STI testing.

STIs are much easier to treat when spotted early on, so whether you have symptoms or not, come and visit one of our clinics so you can get checked out.
